Nick Porter

Nick has lived in Bristol for over 20 years and is a structural engineer for Ramboll. He has worked on projects far and wide, ranging from Hengrove Leisure Centre to an Iron Age roundhouse and a major new hospital for Stockholm. Nick enjoys contributing outside his discipline and believes that we reach better solutions when we’re willing to look outside our silos and understand the requirements of all team members.

Harriet Powell

Harriet has 10 years’ experience working in place-shaping. As an architect she predominantly worked for public sector clients, which inspired her move to the sector. While working for the Greater London Authority’s planning and regeneration team, Harriet worked with London Boroughs, community organisations, Mayor’s Design Advocates and teams across the GLA to deliver the Mayor’s Good Growth by Design programme. Harriet now leads a team at Homes England, delivering affordable homes in the Southwest region.

Geoff Rich

Geoff is a Managing Partner at FCBStudios and an AABC-accredited conservation architect with a leading role in creative re-use and regeneration projects. He is currently working on the world’s oldest surviving iron-framed buildings at Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings, the Bath Abbey Footprint project, and masterplans for the National Museums of Liverpool and Liverpool University. Geoff is a member of the Historic England Historic Places Panel, lectures at several universities, and previously led award-winning projects at Hampton Court Palace and Windsor Castle.

Alan Ringe

After studying construction technology at South Devon College, Alan studied Architecture at Plymouth and has practiced at director level for over 30 years. He has worked on projects in Retail, Commercial, Leisure, Hospitality and Housing. He has experience in master planning and urban design, and worked extensively on projects within conservation areas. Alan has successfully worked on numerous listed buildings throughout the Southwest. Alan has extensive experience working with multiple disciplines in construction projects both private and public. Alan is also a fine furniture maker, having studied at Bridgwater and studied Art History with the Open University. Alan has sat on and presented to review panels for a number of years.

Rob Toal

Rob is an AABC accredited conservation architect who specialises in the conservation, repair and adaption of historic buildings, playing a leading role in their creative re-use. Recently he was involved in the unique transformation of a large and historic country Estate at the Newt in Somerset. He is currently involved in the ongoing conservation works and planning at Longleat House, quinquennial inspections at numerous churches and sustainable reuse of historic farmsteads utilising low carbon technologies.

James Sibson

James is focused upon delivering design solutions developed from an intricate understanding of existing and historic buildings and context. He has worked across the UK on projects ranging from the discreet though to the large-scale redevelopment of urban sites. He seeks to embed a strong philosophy of reuse and to maximise cultural engagement of historic buildings and settings. He is also co-chair of the Heritage Group feeding into the UKNZCBS.

Andrew Simpson

Andrew has extensive experience working in the education sector. His practice combines Architecture and Landscape design to create spaces for learners of all ages - from infants to adults. Working on all stages of design from urban planning and master planning, to technical design and delivery, he has developed related specialisms in heritage, SEND provision, and spaces for music. He is passionate about our investment in education as a driver for change in society.

Claire Smith

Claire is the office director for the 550 strong Bath (founding) office of Buro Happold. She was made a Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers in 2016, a Partner at Buro Happold in 2018 and an honorary Doctor of Engineering in 2022. During her time in consultancy, she has worked on a wide variety of new build and refurbishment projects including educational, cultural and leisure buildings with much of her work focused in the South West market, where she is leading Buro Happold’s work in the Temple Quarter Enterprise zone. A strong theme of her work is the desire to produce structures that are expressive of the material properties of which they are constructed. In addition to her role at Buro Happold, Claire is on the South West Council of the Confederation of British Industry, leads the Climate and Nature group for the Future Ambition Board for BANES and sits on the Industrial Liaison Panel at the University of Bath.

Edward Tarratt

With over 18 years’ experience as a Landscape Architect, Ed, an Associate Director in LUC’s Bristol Design team, brings expertise to a diverse range of projects, including grade I listed landscapes, universities, hospitals, schools, housing, film studios, and parks. Recently, Ed led the landscape design elements associated with the successful Bristol Zoo Gardens planning application. He has a passion for all things design, with a particular interest in plants and the creation of resilient landscapes.
