Sophie is a highly experienced and knowledgeable Urban Designer with over 15 years’ experience of working in the public sector at a senior level. With strong expertise in the development of new communities and housing regeneration, she is particularly interested in how well designed places impact people's physical and mental wellbeing. Currently the Senior Urban Design Officer at Dorset Council, her work includes collaborating on the production of master plans, design guides and design policies as well as providing in depth analysis and review of complex, large scale and often sensitive development proposals.

Richard is an urban designer and urban planner with extensive experience in the preparation of design strategies, development frameworks and neighbourhood plans. He has particular expertise in engaging with local communities to help shape and influence emerging spatial strategies. Richard is a visiting tutor on the architecture course at the Arts University Bournemouth and an urban design teaching fellow at the University of Southampton.

Neil is a master planner, urban designer and town planner with over 30 years of experience promoting design excellence in the built environment. Neil has particular expertise in visioning, planning and strategic design, mixed-use housing and community regeneration. He is one of the founders and owners of Clifton Emery design – a multi-disciplinary design practice bringing together architecture, urban design, landscape design and graphic design in a collaborative design environment.

Vicky is a Director of Emmett Russell Architects and experienced in the design and delivery of housing, community and education projects at a range of scales. Key areas of interest include housing design, masterplanning, conservation of historic buildings, and sustainable construction. Vicky also has extensive teaching experience at the Welsh School of Architecture and the University of the West of England. She is an examiner for UWE Part 3 Professional Practice Course.

David is a director of Churchman Thornhill Finch based in Bristol and a Design Council Expert.

Jane is a chartered Landscape Architect, Urban Designer and Managing Director of Novell Tullett. Jane is also co-chair of the Bristol Design Review Panel for Design West, an Academician at the Academy of Urbanism, and a part-time tutor for the Masters degree in Urban Design at the School of Architecture in Cardiff. Jane’s professional life revolves around the creation of successful places. She believes that being alive to the city context is the key to generating quality and value in the public realm. Well-related spaces bring opportunities for social interaction to local people, and inspiring design can entice life outside with all the wellbeing benefits it provides.
Rebecca Frost

Rebecca is an Associate Urban Designer with a background in Town Planning. Designing places that are resilient to future needs, respond appropriately to their local context and are designed for wildlife and people are key drivers for Rebecca as a placemaker. She has over nine years of experience working on a range of projects from concept design, to outline planning applications and design coding as well as a range of engagement activities including co-design workshops.

Dr Lincoln Garland has been practicing as an ecologist and eco-masterplanner in environmental consultancy, academia, and for wildlife NGOs for over 30 years. He has a particular interest in eco-urbanism and has worked on many residential schemes. Lincoln recently had two chapters included in the Routledge Handbook of Urban Ecology and regularly contributes articles to the Nature of Cities web based platform. Lincoln also regularly works overseas including in Singapore, Malaysia, and the Middle-East.
Bill Gething

University of the West of England, Bill Gething: Sustainability + Architecture
Bill Gething is a retired architect and sustainability consultant and is Professor Emeritus at the University of the West of England, where he retains an involvement in teaching and research. He has particular expertise in low energy design; housing; adapting buildings to the changing climate, particularly in relation to overheating; thermal retrofit of the existing stock, and ensuring buildings perform as well in practice as they should in theory.
